GCU London lecturer, Alex Antoniou was recently nominated by students as their outstanding staff member for the annual Students’ Association teaching awards.
Alex, who teaches on the Legal Aspects of Brand Management module for our Luxury programmes, became the first member of London staff to be nominated for the awards.
The Students’ Association hold the teaching awards every year to give students an opportunity to nominate their teacher for one of the seven awards.
Students nominated members of GCU London staff, including both academics and support staff (Two of the awards are reserved for support/non-teaching staff and postgraduate teachers). Any teaching/Learning Development Centre staff nominated for an award are then automatically put forward for an Excellence in Teaching Award, for the three Glasgow based academic schools.
Staff who were nominated were then shortlisted by a panel of students who were supported by a member of staff from GCU with expertise in learning and teaching. All staff nominated and the students who nominated them were invited to the awards ceremony that took place Friday 12 May 2017.
Students from London got involved, nominating Alex Antoniou as their outstanding staff member here at GCU London. This is great news as a London member of staff have not made the Roll of Honour before.
When speaking to Alex about being nominated he said, “It is a tremendous honour to be nominated for a Teaching Award.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my students for noticing my efforts, but most importantly, for actively supporting my endeavours in class.
“Their perspective and encouragement means a great deal to me.
“I hope that my work continues to reflect my commitment to enriching the students’ learning experience.”
