GCU London is pleased to announce that three of our lecturers have achieved Senior Fellowship status from the Higher Education Academy (HEA). We would like to congratulate Mr Thomas Peschken, Dr Ruth Marciniak and Dr Dane Lukic on their outstanding commitment and contribution to teaching within higher education.

HEA is a national non-profit organisation that supports and places strong focus on teaching excellence within higher education around the world. The body awards Fellowships to higher education teaching professionals at four different levels: Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow.  There are currently 90,000 Fellows, of which only 7% are Senior Fellows.

The Senior Fellowship is awarded to teaching professionals who have demonstrated a strong impact and influence on the quality of teaching and learning in their institution. Applicants must show that they have an established teaching record and clear evidence of management in education.

Upon gaining the Fellowship, Thomas Peschken commented:

“Senior Fellowship is not just about learning and teaching excellence; it is also about leadership and championing innovation and good practice. The fact that three of us demonstrated leadership in learning and teaching outside formal roles and commitments illustrates the collaborative effort and peer-to-peer support present to advance learning, teaching and the student experience at GCU London.”

Dane Lukic adds:

“Working on my Senior Fellowship recognition turned out to be a useful reflective process that allowed me to clarify how I approach practice and leadership in learning and teaching. Doing it alongside my colleagues from GCU London was essential since they gave me great feedback and helped me stay on track.”

The application process for the Fellowship took one year, and with support from each other and the Academic Development Team at Glasgow, our lecturers each produced a portfolio of case studies with supporting artefacts such as successful grant applications to evidence their dedication in teaching and learning excellence.

On the topic of working as a team, Ruth Marciniak expressed:

“The Senior Fellowship provided me with a good opportunity to work with Thomas and Dane.  They gave me great support.”

Please join GCU London in congratulating our lecturers on this significant achievement!
