Researchers from Glasgow Caledonian University have joined with 2000 political scientists at Charles University in Prague for the 10th General Conference of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR), the largest political science event in Europe. Tom Montgomery, a researcher based in the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health, presented a comparative paper with colleagues from the University of Florence and the University of Siegen on building and sustaining transnational solidarity in times of crisis across the UK, Germany and Italy with a focus on organisations engaged in the areas of employment, migration and disability. The paper drew upon findings from the European Commission Horizon 2020 funded poject TransSOL which investigates transnational solidarity across Europe in the context of the economic crisis and the austerity measures which followed. Research  for the project in the UK is being conducted by the GCU team of Professor Simone Baglioni, Tom Montgomery and Dr Olga Biosca in collaboration with researchers and civil society practitioners from seven other European countries: Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland and Switzerland.
