GCU London contributes to the UpRising leadership programme



GCU London has recently contributed £5,000 towards the running of the UpRising leadership programme through the sponsorship of an UpRising student.

UpRising is a UK-wide youth leadership development organisation. Their aim is to open opportunities for talented young people from diverse and under-represented backgrounds, so that UpRising equips them with the knowledge, networks, skills, and confidence to fulfil their leadership potential and transform the world around them through social action.

The leadership programme that GCU London supported has enabled participants a unique first-hand view of the way that political, business, public sector and community organisations work together to shape our communities. Each participant has been individually matched with a coach and a mentor who supports them on a one to one basis throughout their time on the programme.

All participants work with other UpRisers to design and deliver a social action campaign on a local issue they are passionate about. As well as forming networks with senior figures, participants also build strong networks amongst their peers on the programme. GCU has previously hosted many sessions for this programme, including the pivotal mentor matching evening, which is an inspiring evening when participants meet their mentors for the first time.

Hasina, the London programme coordinator, said: ‘This sponsorship has been an amazing contribution, which has enabled us to deliver a programme which will impact individuals and the local community’.

UpRising offers a wide range of leadership and employability programmes for 16-25 year old. Their flagship programme is a 9 month leadership programme, involving ‘access behind the scenes’ training sessions with some of the UK’s most senior leaders across the political, private, public and not for profit sectors.
