On Thursday 10 November, GCU London’s MSc Fashion Business Creation students visited Boohoo.com’s head offices in Manchester.
Boohoo is an online fashion retailer and is one of the fastest growing international e-tailers. Since launching in 2006, Boohoo has developed a number of strategic international markets and achieved sales to over 130 countries. It was recently named Best Online Fashion Retailer at the High Street Fashion Awards for the fourth year running.
The students had a fantastic opportunity to take a tour of the buildings, hear how the different teams worked and even got a chance to watch a photoshoot. Afterwards, students then were invited to quiz Boohoo’s Joint CEOs, Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane.
Carol and Mahmud gave the students great insight in to the challenges they’ve faced through the creation of Boohoo.com and they quizzed the students on their own individual business ideas.
Mahmud is one of GCU’s Honorary Professors and was awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award at our graduation ceremony in November 2015.
After visiting Boohoo.com, Mahmud arranged for the students to visit Pretty Little Thing, another online fashion retailer owned by Mahmud’s son, Umar Kamani.
Student, Lydia Ayorkor Manieson, said: “I really enjoyed the trip to Boohoo it was very insightful and exciting to see all that goes on behind the curtains of such a successful online retailer.
“I also found the chat with the CEOs very informative and I’m looking forward to more of such educative and fun trips.”
Martha, another Fashion Business Creation student, commented: “Definitely an eye-opener to witness how a top fashion pure player achieved so much success! Their headquarters in Manchester was amazing!
“Getting insights from CEOs Madmud Kamani and Carol Kane enlightened and sparked that fire in us all. It made us think more on how to better strategise our business ideas, to present ourselves to investors and be ready to fight for it.
“We greatly appreciate our professors, Christopher, Erica and Hvoje for this amazing experience! This one’s for the books!”
