As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, Thomas Peschken (MBA and MSc Global Marketing Programme Leader) and four MSc Global Marketing students attended The Business Show 2017 held at Kensington Olympia on 17th November 2017.

As Europe’s biggest business event, The Business Show is held bi-annually in London and attracts over 25,000 businesses. The event was divided into six zones; Startup Zone, SME Marketplace, Digital Zone, Going Global Live, Finance Zone and the latest addition, the Legal & HR Zone.  Each zone had a variety of exhibitors, talks and Masterclasses providing training, information and services through various formats such as speed mentoring sessions and one-to-one marketing advice appointments.

Keynote speakers included Peter Roberts (Founder of PureGym), Steve Parish (Co-owner and Chairman of Crystal Palace F.C.) and Raja Saggi (Head of B2B Marketing UK Google) to name just a few.

There were two sessions that were of particular interest to us. The first being Google Digital Garage’s Masterclass. With the average person spending 5 hours and 48 minutes a day on the internet and 42 million people on social media; it is important that businesses and organisations make themselves accessible via Google. In this masterclass delivered by Social Marketing Expert, Becky Boyd, we learned what happens behind the scenes when someone searches for our organisation on Google, how to make use of Google Analytics and Google Trends, and how we can benefit from advertising online.

The second session was the ‘How to develop an International Digital Marketing Strategy’ presentation by Agnieszka Szrubkowska (Managing Director at Web Behaviour Specialists). Aimed at those who wish to trade and export internationally, Agnieszka discussed how to enter new international markets, and how digital marketing can be utilised effectively when trying to reach the target audience. She highlighted the importance  of  localisation, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and PPC (Pay Per Click) campaigns and provided useful tips on how these processes can be optimised to expose the company and its brand efficiently and successfully.

The Business Show was a busy and exciting event with a huge range of exhibitors and keynote speakers who provided inspirational and motivational talks. We hope that our students were able to pick up some marketing tips and advice on both a domestic and international level. The next Business Show will be held on 16th- 17th May 2018 at the ExCel, London. It is free to attend so make sure to check it out!
