WiSE Visiting Professor Awarded 2016 Leontief Prize

WiSE Research Centre Visiting Professor Diane Elson has been awarded the 2016 Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought by Tufts University. The Global Development and Environment Institute at Tufts University annual award titled “Development and Equity,” in is recognition of the contribution made by Professor Elson to economic understandings of development, power, gender, and human rights.

Diane Elson is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of Essex and has been Visiting Professor at WiSE, GSBS, since 2013 and will continue in that capacity until 2018. Professor Elson is a member of the UN Committee for Development Policy, and an adviser to UN Women. She has published widely on gender equality, economic policy, and human rights, and is currently writing a book with Radhika Balakrishnan and James Heintz entitled Economic Policy for Social Justice: The Radical Potential of Human Rights.
