“I learned an array of knowledge and skills and enjoyed every second of my time studying at GCU.”

2021 International Events Management graduate Meaghan Vincent shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.

I chose to study at GCU because…

I chose to study at GCU because I was so interested in the course and through research found it was a great university. The lecturers and staff taught me so much, I learned an array of knowledge and skills and enjoyed every second of my time studying at GCU. I am so glad I was able to achieve a 2:1 honours degree and made some great friends along the way.

The most important aspect of my university experience has been…

Learning invaluable skills, I’ve been able to take into life outside university. I was luckily enough to achieve a great full-time position only a couple of months after finishing university and now I am able to use this knowledge throughout my role and to educate others along the way.

My biggest lesson learned so far is…

Studying at university is hard and sometimes I thought I couldn’t succeed, especially since my fourth and finally year was completely online based. No matter how hard it seemed at the time, I’m glad I persevered and believed in myself as it meant I was able to achieve a degree from a great university. It has taught me to stick to my goals and believe in all I can achieve, never give up!

I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…

I’m proud to be a part of Glasgow Caledonian as it is such a great university. It provided me with lots of opportunities and I learned so much, it really is a great place to study with endless facilities & great course offerings.

I get my inspiration from…

I get my inspiration from many places and people but most definitely from my friends and family. They encouraged me to keep going through the hard moments and pushed me to never give up. There were many points, especially throughout writing my dissertation during a pandemic, where I felt I couldn’t continue. Luckily, I have a great base of people around me for encouragement in everything I do. I was also inspired by other students and graduates I seen succeed which pushed me to keep going and also achieve something great.

My next steps look like…

I am currently enjoying my role within Cameron House as a Meetings & Events Operations Supervisor. I have been there almost a year now and have been able to showcase my skills learnt throughout university and put these into practice whilst hosting and setting up for events. In the future I am hoping to come back to university, perhaps to GCU in London and study for a masters degree. I am very interested in fashion with my dissertation being based around fashion events. I feel this is the route I would like to go down and feel with my BA Hons degree in International Events Management and hopefully in the future a Masters degree in Fashion Lifestyle Marketing, I could take the steps to my dream job.

You are most likely to bump into me…

You are most likely to bump into myself in and around Cameron House resort. As it’s my full-time job and it is a hospitality based role, I’m sure it’s not hard to believe it feels like I spend 90% of my time there but it’s great! Would be happy to show anyone around and explain what we do day-day within the hotel.
