“I was taught to learn my modules in the context of the working world, rather than solely theory from books.”

2022 MSc Marketing graduate Rebecca Boyd shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.

I chose to study at GCU because…

I had completed my undergrad here and really enjoyed it!

The most important aspect of my university experience has been…

The friends I met on my course, and the support from my supervisor whilst writing my dissertation. I wouldn’t have made it without either!

My biggest lesson learned so far is…

Don’t underestimate your ability, apply for the job – even if you think you don’t have all the skills. And ask the questions, even if you think they’re stupid!

I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…

I was taught to learn my modules in the context of the working world, rather than solely theory from books. This gave me confidence to deal with the transition from studying to being part of a team working for an international company.

I get my inspiration from…

Myself! I think everyone has their own story, and (for the most part) I can see how hard I’ve worked and what I’ve achieved. I think it’s important to recognise everyone does life differently, to find what works for you and be proud of that.

My next steps look like…

For now, I’d like to enjoy building on my career and getting experience in the industry. I’m not ruling out a PhD… but maybe in a few years’ time.
