GCU is joining Science on The Sofa – Glasgow Science Online Festival.
Running from September 9 to November 9, the free Science on The Sofa digital programme will be full of hands-on activities, talks, shows, workshops and exhibitions including events presented by GCU staff.
Susan Grant, Community and Public Engagement Coordinator, and Engineering Lecturer Dr George Loumakis will join the People Behind the Festival strand and Dr Loumakis will also be presenting his findings on marine renewables. Our Common Good podcast series, which explores how GCU is helping people and communities locally, nationally and around the world, will feature in a section showcasing Glasgow’s COVID-19 response.
The Safeguarding Health through Infection Prevention (SHIP) research team – whose outreach activities in antimicrobial resistance and hand hygiene are now more relevant to the public than ever before – will be sharing a video created by the team in lockdown, and GCU Psychology’s SMYLE mental health project will present a fortune teller activity to help young people stay calm and feel better when they are, for example, experiencing feelings of sadness or anger. The activity was designed by GCU Psychology student, Murin Currie and will be available for families, schools and youth groups to download. And pioneering food chemist Mary Andross, of GCU founding institution Glasgow and West of Scotland College of Domestic Science, will feature in Monumental.
