Dean appointed as Trustee for the UK Council of Deans of Health

GCU’s Health and Life Sciences Dean Professor Andrea Nelson has been appointed as a Trustee for the UK Council of Deans of Health (CODH).

The COHD has recently become a charity and Professor Nelson is one of only six members to be appointed onto the Board of Trustees.

The new Board of Trustees will work to place higher education at the heart of healthcare policy and with members to develop the future strategic direction of the COHD.

The COHD represents the UK’s university faculties engaged in education and research for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. At any one time CODH members will be educating around 100,000 future and registered health professionals.

Professor Nelson, who began her new role last month, said: “Higher education has a pivotal role to play in developing both the knowledge for healthcare practice and the practitioners of the future, and I am proud to be able to play my part as a nurse, researcher and academic leader, in ensuring that UK’s health faculties are equipped to deliver on our purpose.

“We seek to provide the strategic voice for the professions, improving and maintaining quality in delivery, education and research, and promoting nursing, midwifery and allied health profession education and research. Glasgow Caledonian University has such a breadth of expertise across so many professions I am confident that I can represent the voice of all our disciplines.”
