GCU OT team launch first research conference

Glasgow Caledonian University’s Occupational Therapy team are running their first Occupational Therapy Research Conference on October 11.

The online event is part of the 60-year anniversary celebrations of occupational therapy education in Glasgow.

The keynote speaker will be Chris Lovegrove, National Institute of Health and Care (NIHR) Research Clinical Doctoral Research Fellow.

There will be presentations from Gillian Ward and Elizabeth Taylor, from the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) Research and Innovation team, who will give the delegates an opportunity to think about research in the context of their roles in the profession.

Dr Alexandra Mavroeidi, Reader and Head of the Department Occupational Therapy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics in the school of Health and Life Sciences, said she was “delighted” the occupational therapy team were hosting the conference.

She added: “GCU has always been at the forefront of research-informed occupational therapy learning and teaching, and this research conference epitomises the University’s legacy in the occupational therapy field.

“As head of the department, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all delegates and contributors, to what is bound to be a highly stimulating and enjoyable afternoon, exploring and debating contemporary occupational therapy issues.”

The team are also inviting delegates to submit abstracts for presentations to give occupational therapists a chance to showcase their research.

If you would like to contribute an abstract about your research, please submit it here by September 15. Abstract acceptances will be notified by September 20.

If you are unsure how to write a good abstract the NIHR and the London School of Economics have published helpful guidance on this.

If you want to be a part of the event please register here. The conference will run 1pm-4.30pm and you can keep up to date with the programme and conference details via The OT Research Conference website.
