BRaVE Project: Policy in Focus Online Workshop

BRaVE Project: Policy in Focus Online Workshop
Thursday, November 26, 2020, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Policy in focus: Addressing socio-economic factors of violent extremism and polarisation, and building resilience

Online workshop

The workshop is organised within the framework of the BRaVE project (Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism and Polarisation, an EU Horizon 2020-funded research project) by one of the project partners, the Center for Policy Studies/Democracy Institute (CPS/DI) at the Central European University. The event will take place on Thursday, the 26th of November 2020, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM (CET).

The purpose of the workshop is to consider policies that address socio-economic factors of radicalisation, violent extremism, and polarisation, and that seek to build resilience against these phenomena. De-radicalisation and counter-extremism, on the one hand, and resilience building, on the other, are among the most urgent policy fields in many contemporary societies—however, misconceptions about both the underlying processes and effectiveness of policy practices endure. This workshop will focus on clarifying such misconceptions. This task has taken on new urgency as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has exacerbated socio-economic conditions linked to radicalisation, violent extremism, and polarisation. Given these intensified strains, sound policy practices are more important than ever.
