The WiSE Centre for Economic Justice has secured its first award from a US philanthropic fund.
The WellSpring Philanthropic Fund has donated $60,000 (circa £48,000) to the Centre to cover a programme of activities to promote and share the research of Professor Diane Elson.
Professor Elson, a Visiting Professor at Glasgow Caledonian since 2014 and the recipient of several prizes, conducts research on the economics of development, with a particular focus on economic crisis, structural adjustment, unpaid care and domestic work, fiscal policy and women’s rights.
The grant will enable open access via an eBook and dedicated website to her influential publications, many of which are not available online, or online only via fees, which limits access for many people, especially in the Global South.
Professor Sara Cantillon, Director of the Wise Centre and principal investigator, said: “We are delighted to have been successful in our first grant application to a US philanthropic funder. Although relatively modest, it will hopefully prove a stepping stone to larger grant applications.”
