A GCU student has received a prestigious student recognition award for his outstanding work on his course – after not even knowing he was nominated in the first place.
Third year Electrical Power Engineering student Adam Scott was surprised to discover that not only had he been nominated for an award, but he had been successfully awarded the IET Prize for his excellent work on his course.
The prize, awarded by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, is given to students who study an IET accredited course and students can be in the chance of winning if nominated by their department.
Adam was delighted to receive the prize.
“When I learned I had won this award it came as a bit of a surprise, but I am over the moon to have received it. It feels great to have this IET Prize to show for my Honours year.”
“As part of my course, I have been developing my understanding of power systems and renewable energy technologies, as well as other closely related topics. This year, I used online lectures and independent learning to supplement my coursework submissions, exams, and dissertation – which looked into one of the key challenges of large scale renewable power integration.”
Adam would like to owe his thanks to his teaching staff for recognising him for his work and nominating him for an IET Prize.
“I would like to give my thanks to those who have nominated me for this award, it means a lot to have been recognised for my Honours year work in this way.”
Now planning for life after his Undergraduate course, Adam has plans to start a Masters course to help develop his career into the power engineering industry.
“For the future, I’m planning to stay on next year and complete an MEng in Electrical Power Engineering. Following that, I hope to begin my career working on some of the exciting new developments in the power industry.”
