“It’s never too late to pick up a new skill and learn something new.”

2022 MSc Marketing graduate Cara Mills McLaughlin shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.

I chose to study at GCU because…

During the pandemic the event industry became redundant leaving me on furlough with no job for the foreseeable. I wanted to learn a new skill and understand a new sector and it felt like the perfect time to do this. GCU felt like a great option not only because I am from Glasgow and it is local but it seemed like a friendly place to study. A lot of people I know had gone to GCU and had great experiences.

The most important aspect of my university experience has been…

Having that online interaction with classmates through the pandemic when the rest of life came to a halt.

My biggest lesson learned so far is…

It’s never too late to pick up a new skill and learn something new.

I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…

It helped me to achieve something I never thought I would during a very unusual time for the whole world.

I get my inspiration from…

My family and friends pushing me to be the best.

My next steps look like…

I have gone back to the music/events industry and have a new exciting job in the event management team at the Scottish Event Campus.

You are most likely to bump into me…

At a gig!
