2023 International Fashion Branding graduate Chirsty Harkins shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.
I chose to study at GCU because…
Having visited GCU on an open day, while in 6th year at school, I immediately felt welcomed. I liked how modern the campus was, and how close the buildings were to one another, as a big thing I was scared about when going to university was getting lost between lectures and classes. I also thought the staff were friendly and approachable. Additionally, the campus is close enough to travel each day from my home, which meant I didn’t have to move away.
The most important aspect of my university experience has been…
Meeting new people and lifelong friends. Before I started university, I was nervous about not knowing anyone in my course, but luckily there were so many lovely people who I clicked with and have made lasting relationships with. This made University life so much easier, knowing I had a group of people supporting and motivating one another.
My biggest lesson learned so far is…
The biggest lesson university has taught me is that I am capable of more than I think and not to doubt myself as much. I never imagined I would be able to write a dissertation. It seemed so impossible, but I live to tell the tale.
I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…
I believe it is an important message and I am proud to be a part of a University which includes all students, no matter their race or ethnicity.
I get my inspiration from…
Wanting to do my very best, and to make my family proud. I also get inspiration from my dog; all his cuddles and kisses have kept me going during my time at University.
My next steps look like…
I am continuing to build my social media and singing careers, while focusing on the positives in life and doing what makes me happy. Studying for 4 years straight after leaving school has been tough, so it’s important to take some time to rest, then I will be on the hunt to find my perfect job.
You are most likely to bump into me…
In a pink café or on the train travelling to or from University.
