Commission on Local Tax Reform launch

The Commission on Local Tax Reform launches today (Monday 14th December). Dr Angela O’Hagan, GSBS, (Social Sciences) has been a member of the Commission on Local Tax Reform since February 2015.  As part of her role on the Commission,   The Commission’s report emphasises there is no one measure to replace the current Council Tax system but rather a wider range of tax measures should be considered in future.  A distinguishing feature of this Commission has been the unprecedented amount of research and analysis the Commission has engaged in and commissioned.  Angela’s specialist knowledge on equalities and public policy, with a specific focus on understanding implications of taxation on women, low income households, disabled people, and carers developed the set of principles upon which the Commission analysed the material and formed its proposals.  Angela arranged for one of the ‘listening events’ taking evidence from the general public to happen at GCU on September 7.
