Dr Sarter Awarded Rhonda Williams Prize in Economics

Katharina Sarter, Ailsa McKay Post-Doctoral Fellow in the WiSE Research Centre at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) has won the Rhonda Williams Prize in economics.

The prize was presented at the International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) Conference in Galway last week.

The 2016 Rhonda Williams Prize is sponsored by Routledge/Taylor and Francis, publisher of Feminist Economics, and was established in memory of Rhonda Williams, associate editor of Feminist Economics from 1994 to 1998, to support scholars whose work reflects Rhonda Williams’ legacy of scholarship and activism.

With the theme ‘Transitions and Transformations in Gender Equality’ for the 25th IAFFE Annual Conference in 2016, the conference approached theoretical and political advances in feminist thinking and practice, expanding the concept of intersectionality to capture transitions and transformations as well as tensions and challenges across socio-economics regimes, generations, institutions and borders.

In developing GCU’s research programme on the interaction between gender and the economy, WiSE appointed Dr Sarter from Bielefeld University to the post of Ailsa McKay Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The commemorative role was created following the passing of renowned GCU Professor of Economics, Ailsa McKay.
