Glasgow Caledonian University’s Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health is taking part in a three-day festival to explore social innovation in partnership with the Social Innovation Exchange.
Taking place between October 7 and 9, the Unusual Suspects Festival 2015 will hear from Professor Cam Donaldson, Yunus Chair in Social Business and Health, who will lead discussions on health research which examines the relationship between social business and health improvement. He will address the issues of health inequalities in Scotland and the ongoing work of the Yunus Centre.
Professor Donaldson said: “As a University committed to the Common Good, GCU’s Yunus Centre is pioneering research which examines the relationship between social business and health improvement and working to improve the lives of those living in our local communities.
“The Festival gives GCU an opportunity to explore new ways of collaborating with social entrepreneurs and to learn from others working in social innovation education.”
GCU Lecturer Michael Roy will also present the findings of current research into the practices of social enterprise practitioners. The event will be chaired by renowned social entrepreneur Rachael Brown, the former director of Impact Arts and social entrepreneur in residence for Social Investment Scotland.
Other events taking place in Glasgow will be led by a number of organisations, including Inspiring Scotland, the Scottish Community Development Centre, InwithForward and the Make a Difference Institute.
The Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health, established in Chancellor Professor Yunus’s name, has attracted close to £4 million in competitive research funding in the last two years and is one of the world’s largest social innovation research centres.
Recent research published by the Social Value Lab, and supported by GCU, reviewed the major impact which Scotland’s social enterprise businesses contribute to the economy.
