WiSE Word CloudOn 14 July, WiSE researchers Dr Angela O’Hagan and Dr Zofia Lapniewska welcome a delegation from the Ministry of Finance of the Government of Vietnam.  Led by NGUYEN Thi Hai Binh, Director of Macroeconomic Policy Department, National Institute for Finance, the group of ten officials are on a fact-finding mission to Scotland and the UK to learn about developments in gender budgeting and gender analysis of economic policy.  WiSE researchers have a long track record in advising governments in Scotland and internationally on the implementation of gender analysis in economic and public policy as well as active engagement in civil society organisations.  Dr O’Hagan is a member of the Scottish Government Equality and Budgets Advisory Group and Convenor of the Scottish Women’s Budget Group.  Dr Lapniewska has developed gender budgeting initiatives in Poland and elsewhere and was involved, along with Prof Ailsa McKay in the initial developments of the European Gender Budgeting Network.  The Scottish Government introduced an Equality Budget Statement in 2009 and continues to be the only government within the UK to pursue gender analysis in the budget process.  Developments across the UK were the focus of the highly successful conference held by WiSE at GCU in May this year.
