2023 International Fashion Branding graduate Laura McClymont shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.
I chose to study at GCU because…
I had always wanted to move to Glasgow, and when I went to all the open days, GCU just had the best feel about it, it all felt so friendly and welcoming. The course I studied was also the only one of its kind in Glasgow, so it was a no brainer to me as I have always wanted to study fashion.
The most important aspect of my university experience has been…
The friends I made after COVID. I had my first year on campus and then COVID hit right as I was beginning second year. Because of this, I didn’t really get a chance to meet people however once things went back to normal I met an amazing group of girls at the start of third year that I wouldn’t have been able to finish uni without.
My biggest lesson learned so far is…
Trust yourself! I always ended up hating any work I did but would always get a better mark than what I was expecting.
I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…
I worked really hard in school to get into my course which was very competitive, so being part of the university feels like a big achievement for me.
I get my inspiration from…
My friends at uni. Seeing them working so hard and doing so well makes me want to do the same.
My next steps look like…
Honestly, no idea! I’m going to enjoy my summer and do a bit of travelling and then start applying for jobs at the end of the year.
