“I also loved the sound of the course as it allowed me to apply the knowledge I gained to real life settings, something only GCU offered.”

2023 Applied Psychology graduate Rebecca Matthews shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.

I chose to study at GCU because…

I resonated with the common good approach and found it incredibly important and positive to see a university aim to address inequalities and provide an equal and safe environment for all. I also loved the sound of the course as it allowed me to apply the knowledge I gained to real life settings, something only GCU offered.

The most important aspect of my university experience has been…

The friends made and the support gained through dealing with stressful situations together. I would also like to thank the lectures and supervisors for their support as my university experience would not have been the same without them.

My biggest lesson learned so far is…

To trust in myself and my own capabilities. I know more than I think, I’m stronger than I feel and I can go further than what I initially thought. University life and the stressors of academia can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially your last year of university. I therefore think it’s important to not be so hard on yourself and to trust that what’s meant to be will be, no matter what you think or how you feel. You’ve got this!

I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…

It allows everyone an equal chance no matter the circumstance. I am proud to be graduating from such a progressive university and will be carrying on the common good approach in everything I do.

I get my inspiration from…

My surroundings. Friends, People, Work, Glasgow. It all inspires me to do better and be better.

My next steps look like…

From September I will be doing a MSc in Autism and COSCA counselling certificate and Diploma in counselling skills and CBT to become a CBT therapist.

You are most likely to bump into me…

In one of the many lovely cafés in the west end of Glasgow.
