“I chose to study at GCU because of the strong links it has to the media industry.”

2023 Multimedia Journalism graduate Brooke Harwood shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.

I chose to study at GCU because…

I chose to study at GCU because of the strong links it has to the media industry. The work experience opportunities that became available to me after starting my GCU course were exactly what I needed to kickstart my career. I also owe a lot of this to the media department staff, who know the industry inside-out and we’re able to guide me towards future employment.

The most important aspect of my university experience has been…

Hands-on studying. Being able to learn essential journalism theory and put it into practice via the Glasgow Standard student newspaper.

My biggest lesson learned so far is…

To push myself outside my comfort zone as often as possible, and to be confident in my abilities and knowledge.

I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…

Its modern values stress the importance of constant collaboration and innovation in education. I always felt that GCU maintained close links between staff and students to ensure all needs were delivered upon.

I get my inspiration from…

Successful and powerful women in the media.

My next steps look like…

Working as a PR executive and freelance journalist.

You are most likely to bump into me…

Starbucks.
