GCU Training and Research helps Nigerian MPs tackle gender inequalities

Women Members of Parliament in Nigeria decided that they wanted to do something about the gender gap in Nigeria and they have been working with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, an independent public body to take forward a gender mainstreaming initiative.
Morag Gillespie, Senior Research Fellow with the Scottish Poverty Information Unit and the Women in Scotland’s Economy Research Centre, is now working with WFD and academic experts in Nigeria as part of the project.
She will be conducting action research including the development, delivery and evaluation of Gender Mainstreaming and Gender Budgeting training for staff working in the Nigerian Assembly and Senate and Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria.

The work over 2014-15 was launched at a preparatory workshop in March 2014 with 24 of the Clerks to Committees who will attend the first training sessions in May 2014.
