“Battle lines on gender equality impact assessment”

Professor Diane Elson, Visiting Professor to Women in Scotland’s Economy Research Centre (WiSE), will lead a seminar and roundtable on current approaches to gender impact analysis of public spending and taxation. Prof. Elson will discuss and contrast the approaches and analysis of the UK Women’s Budget Group and House of Commons Library in the current context of public spending cuts and a politics of resistance to gender equality impact analysis at Westminster. The seminar and round-table discussion will consider current methods of assessing the gender impact of budgetary decisions and the additional leverage from human rights assessments and scrutiny processes such as the Committee on CEDAW and recent developments in assessment tools by the SHRC and EHRC Scotland.
