WiSE team members Visiting Prof Diane Elson, Morag Gillespie and Dr Angela O’Hagan ran the 4th WiSE Weekend School for the STUC Women’s Committee. 22-24 May over 30 delegates from unions across Scotland participated in the STUC Women’s Committee Weekend School on “Economics for Equality”. Valerie Wright from Glasgow University joined the team on the first night for a look back to women’s trade union activism. Over the weekend sessions included analysis of women and poverty and building participants’ understanding of the gendered nature of the economy and the tools and analysis from feminist economics to help combat gender inequality in the workplace and in economic policy. The WiSE weekend schools have always evaluated very highly, with one participant commenting this year that the course had been “life changing.”
