Professor Jeffery Sachs Lecture: SDG5 Gender Equality

WiSE Centre for Economic Justice are delighted to announce that Professor Jeffery Sachs  will give a public lecture on SDG 5: Gender Equality on Thursday 12 May at 5pm (BST) online.

Professor Sachs, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University is a world-renowned economics professor and global leader in sustainable development. He is President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Chair of the Lancet COVID-19 Commission.  Professor Sachs has served as Special Advisor to UN Secretaries-General Kofi Annan (2001-7), Ban Ki-moon (2008-16), and António Guterres (2017-18) and an SDG Advocate for the United Nations on the Sustainable Development Goals.

His lecture on gender equality (SDG 5) will be the first, framework setting, lecture in a new WiSE Seminar Series, The Series will bring together academics, policy researchers, care advocates and policymakers to explore critical issues in the post Covid19 global care landscape including paid and unpaid care work, public investments in care infrastructure, shifts in gendered distribution of care provision, policy proposals and a reimagining of the care economy. The full programme for the  series will be launched at Jeff’s lecture.
